GSTR-1A

Also called: GSTR 1A

What is GSTR-1A?

GSTR-1A is an optional amendment return that lets a supplier correct or add records of outward supplies after GSTR-1 has been filed but before the summary return for the same tax period is submitted. Corrected values flow into the summary return automatically.

Why GSTR-1A matters

Since the auto-populated liability in the summary return stopped being editable, the amendment return is the route for fixing a mistake in the same period rather than carrying it forward. Without it, an error found after filing outward supplies would sit in your numbers until the following month.

How it works in practice

File outward supplies, check the figures that populate the summary return, and if something is wrong — a wrong buyer GSTIN, a missed invoice, a wrong taxable value — correct it here before submitting. Your buyer's credit statement reflects the corrected record, which is why a buyer chasing a mismatch will often ask you to use it.

What it cannot do

It is not a general amendment window. It closes when the summary return for the period is filed, and corrections after that follow the ordinary amendment route in a later period.

Frequently asked questions

No. It is optional and only needed when something in the outward supplies already filed for the period is wrong or missing.
