Footfall
Also called: walk-ins, foot traffic
What is Footfall?
Footfall is the number of people who physically enter a shop or restaurant in a period, whether or not they buy. It is the top of the funnel for any location-based business.
Why Footfall matters
Footfall separates a traffic problem from a conversion problem. Steady footfall with falling sales points at the offer or the service, not at the location.
Footfall formula
Conversion rate = Bills issued ÷ Footfall × 100
Sales per visitor = revenue ÷ footfall.
How Footfall works in practice
Count it even roughly — a manual counter at peak hours for a week is enough to establish a baseline. Track it against day-part and weather, since both explain more variation than most owners expect.
