Conversion Rate

Also called: conversion %

What is Conversion Rate?

Conversion rate is the percentage of people who take the action you wanted — visitors who buy, enquiries that become orders, listing views that become deliveries. It measures how well interest becomes revenue.

Why Conversion Rate matters

Conversion is usually cheaper to improve than traffic. Doubling footfall is expensive; converting a few more of the people already in front of you is often free.

Conversion Rate formula

Conversion rate % = Conversions ÷ Total opportunities × 100

Measure it per stage, not only end to end.

How Conversion Rate works in practice

Measure at each step of the journey so the drop-off point is visible. For a shop that means footfall to bills; for a delivery listing, views to orders.

Worked example

300 footfall producing 90 bills is a 30% conversion rate.

Frequently asked questions

Count people entering against bills issued. Even a manual count for a week is revealing.
