Role-Based Access
Also called: user roles, access control, user permissions
What is Role-Based Access?
Role-based access assigns permissions by role rather than by person — a cashier bills, a manager approves discounts and voids, an owner sees reports and settings. Each user logs in as themselves.
Why Role-Based Access matters
Shared logins destroy accountability. Without individual users, no void, discount or price override can be traced to anyone, and the audit trail becomes decorative.
How Role-Based Access works in practice
Give each person their own login, restrict discounts, voids and price edits to supervisors, and review those actions weekly. Remove access the same day someone leaves.
